Christopher

Meet Christopher! Christopher has been knitting for about three years and designing for two. After growing up in Reno, NV, he lived in Portland, OR, and will soon be moving to Chicago, IL, to continue his design career.

What are your favorites right now?
Yarn Store: My favorite yarn store was Happy Knits in Portland before it closed. I learned how to knit from the wonderful staff there, got all my yarn there, and was introduced to a lot of brands that I use today. My next favorite would be Dublin Bay Knitting Company, because it’s also home to their yarn brand, Solstice Yarn.
Yarn: I love hand dyed tonal yarns, so Malabrigo Yarn is definitely on the top of my list. I do enjoy many indie dyers, including Black Trillium Fibres. For non-hand dyes, I am a big fan of any yarn from Shibui Knits and The Fibre Company.

Why do you knit?: I literally started knitting because I was bored, and ended up loving it. I started designing because there were things I wanted to make that no one else had designed yet, and from there, it took over. Now I knit and design because it’s the first thing I was good at that everyone else enjoyed as well.

Most challenging project (and why?): My Baker Street design. It was originally designed for a MKAL through Jimmy Beans Wool, and part of the way through, I started to run out of yarn. It was anxiety inducing because I didn’t want to force people to buy more yarn than I intended, but it was also a chance for me to let the creativity flow with what I had. To be honest, it’s still a design I don’t acknowledge fully. Had I planned things differently, it would have been more well received in the end. But it’s all part of the learning process.

What’s your new favorite thing?: I’ve gotten into more TV. I know it sounds a bit lazy to call it a favorite thing, but I haven’t really had the chance to watch it before recently. These days I’ll work on a fairly simple knitting project and browse shows on TV or Netflix.
