Caitlin is a midwestern girl who was transplanted to Washington State. She’s been knitting for 11 years, and is currently a stay-at-home mom and home educator to her 3 awesome kids.

What are your favorites right now?
Yarn Store:
I buy most of my yarn online from Jimmy Beans Wool They have an awesome rewards program and lots of good sales. I also love the Portland based secondhand craft store, Kraft Kitty. They buy stashes from estates sales and I frequently find really high end stuff for awesome prices!
Yarn: I’m really enjoying anything by Malabrigo right now, especially their chunky weight merino.

Why do you knit? When I was on a family vacation 11 years ago,  I happened into a gift shop that had this book called “Teen Knitting Club”. I thought to myself, “If my dream of becoming Laura Ingalls Wilder is ever going to come to fruition, I should learn to knit!” I bought that cheesy book and just decided to do it. I’m still no Laura, but I taught myself how to knit with that book and some Youtube videos! I quickly realized that the creative possibilities in knitting are basically endless, and I love being able to explore that. The idea of making something start to finish with my hands and watching it take shape over time is just really satisfying and beautiful. At one point I had an etsy shop selling handknits, but now I’m branching out into designing patterns!

Most challenging project (and why)? I’m making a hat right now that is taking forever because it’s the first time I’ve used a chart. Combine that with single ply merino and complicated cabling – it’s just really tedious. I’ve had to frog it a few times, and the yarn keeps slipping off my needles because I’m too cheap to buy a longer cable. It’s requiring a lot of willpower, but the end result will be wonderful.

What’s your new favorite thing? Audiobooks! I can’t get enough of them. I’m currently listening to two books: Sherlock Holmes, and The Kitchen House. It’s so fun to listen while I knit or do housework.
