Meet Paula from Slovakia!
Paula is a university student currently on a study abroad program in Dubrovnik, Croatia. She’s a passionate knitter and crocheter, and loves travelling to new places.
What are your favorites right now?
Yarn Store: This Is Knit in Dublin, Ireland. It has a magical atmosphere and the most helpful and friendly staff – you just want to stay there forever. I go there every time I’m in Ireland. And, of course, my local yarn store in Slovakia Vlna Na Predaj.
Yarn: I really enjoyed working with Malabrigo yarn and Herriot by Juniper Moon Farm. I’m discovering more expensive yarns, only very slowly because of being on a tight student budget.
Why do you knit? I knit because I simply love it. It is so relaxing, and a great way to de-stress after a long day. I love that it enables me to create my own clothes out of good quality materials. It also gives me a special connection with my grandmothers who taught me to knit and crochet. One of them passed away several years ago, and I’m proud that I can continue this craft she once loved so much.
Most challenging project (and why)? Anything which requires me to do the maths on my own. I just can’t do maths, so it always takes a lot of time and energy to figure everything out, but it’s always worth it in the end.
What’s your new favorite thing? Since I’m spending this summer term in Dubrovnik, my new favorite thing is definitely learning to cook seafood the traditional Dalmatian way.
